Matt Birris

Head of Scholastic

Matt Birris leads Riot Games’ scholastic League of Legends program in North America, spanning the College Championship and Season, College Clubs, and emerging efforts to grow League of Legends as a high school sport.

He grew up in Pittsburgh and worked as a management consultant in Chicago before joining Riot.

He holds a BBA from Notre Dame and an MBA from Northwestern.


Michael Sherman

Head of College

Michael Sherman leads college for RSAA and is responsible for the company efforts in the collegiate business development space, including partnerships with the Big Ten Network, State Farm, Yahoo, and UC Irvine.

Over the last year, he has focused on growing the number of schools that support varsity level League of Legends, taking it from 1 in 2014 to more than 80 in 2018. He grew up in Houston Texas and is a proud alumni of University of Texas at Dallas.


J.T. Vandenbree

Operations and Championships Lead

J.T. Vandenbree leads league operations and championships for RSAA and is responsible for the long-term structure, rules, and format of the college season.

He brings lessons learned from ten years of esports experience organizing international, professional, developmental, and amateur competitions.

He is an alumni of the University of California, San Diego.


Caroline Montano

Community Lead

Caroline Montano leads the college community program for RSAA and is responsible for the development and support of the program, including all of the North American college clubs, grassroots events, and community engagement. 

She grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia and is an alumni of Simon Fraser University. Before joining Riot, she worked as an events manager in the gaming industry and as a program manager for the collegiate space at a legal software company.
